FAQ

The Abundance Bot is an AI-powered tool trained on housing and policy resources to help elected officials quickly access policy ideas, examples, and references. Think of it as a starting point for brainstorming, framing, or finding leads to more detailed resources.

Unlike general-purpose AI tools, the Abundance Bot is designed specifically for elected officials and staff working on housing policy. It draws on curated sources from our Knowledge Base and trusted pro-housing organizations.

We recommend using the Bot as a starting point for research or brainstorming, not a final source. It may summarize policies, share examples, or suggest next steps. Always double-check with the linked sources and your own staff before making decisions.

Yes. When possible, the Bot includes links to reports, case studies, and Knowledge Base articles. If a source is missing, please treat the response as a draft idea and cross-verify.

Yes, just ask the bot to connect you with peers fitting your criteria and it will return suggestions for electeds to connect with and give you a link to their profile in our Member Directory where you can contact them for further conversation.

Many members find it helpful for:

  • Quickly getting up to speed on a policy area
  • Drafting initial talking points
  • Gathering examples to share with staff or colleagues
  • Exploring options before diving deeper into PDFs or statutes

Abundance Bot helps users interact with the wealth of policy documents contained with Abundance Network’s curated Knowledge Base and information provided by members of the Abundance Electeds program. When new PDFs, documents, and members are added, the bot breaks down each document into a special format called “embeddings”. This allows the bot to quickly find relevant insights and members of the Abundance Electeds network who’ve tackled similar issues. Importantly, whenever someone interacts with the bot, their identity is protected through anonymized records.

The interface was our design, but under the hood the bot is powered by powerful Artificial Intelligence products—it leverages both Anthropic’s Claude and ChatGPT which are configured and tuned to understand the policy resources collected in our Knowledge Base.

When you ask Abundance Bot a question it uses technology from OpenAI to create embeddings. Then, the bot uses a model called Claude (by Anthropic) to read through what’s been stored in the Knowledge Base and Member Directory, find the best information, and reply in natural language. Right now, the system only relies on the documents and information it’s been given—it doesn’t search the web for answers.
